In our school we fully implement the PE curriculum. It is a challenge not having a hall or large indoor area but we are lucky to have so much space outside and we make the best use of this space that we can.

We were lucky  last year, in March 2020,to have installed a new walking/running track to use as part of PE. We are lucky too to have a great range of PE equipment and the children can use the equipment at break times as well as during PE.

We are fortunate that we can attend swimming lessons in The Apex in New Ross every year. We get ten weeks swimming immediately after the Christmas holidays. In 2019, for the first time, the whole school was included -even the infants. Our Parents Association fundraise to pay for the bus and this makes the lessons affordable for all. We are very grateful to our PA for this and it’s wonderful every year to see the progress made by the children during the lessons. We have missed these lessons which have not taken place due to the pandemic but we are looking forward to swimming again when restrictions allow. In the meantime, we will teach the PAWS programme to all classes for this 2020/21 school year.

We discuss PE as part of our Parent/Teacher meetings each year and PE is included on our annual reports.

For the 2019/2020 school year, we had prioritised  Gymnastics as our PE strand. It was unfortunate that our year was cut short but we will get back to that strand when school reopens.

Well, we eventually got back to school in September 2020 after a very long break due to  the COVID-19 pandemic. We got straight back to the strand of Gymnastics in PE and here are some pictures of the work completed. We used the lessons from PDST as well as Move Well, Move Often. It was great that the weather stayed fine.
