We are really looking forward to our very first Active School Week this year. It will take place during the week of May 15th to 19th. The committee as well as the teachers have come up with some fun ideas for the week-including only PE homework! Should be fun!!

What a busy week we had for our first ASW. The weather wasn’t great on Monday but the senior classes braved the elements to begin the five week Cycle Right course while the junior classes had their activities indoors.

On Tuesday we got busy with Zumba and a Star Wars Yoga (not Yoda!) adventure…

Wednesday the sun shone and the whole school got skipping. We had great fun. The senior children helped the juniors to get the hang of it. We learned the skipping rhyme ” Three Monkeys ”

We also learned some clapping games on Wednesday.

A great day was had on Thursday as we welcomed Maureen from Up2U Fitness. Maureen came to our school to give us a taste of what she does in her fitness classes. The seniors tried out circuits and the juniors played lots of games with Maureen. We were so lucky with the weather too!

Steps and lunges

Push ups and skipping

More steps and some press ups!

On Friday also, Mr O’Flaherty set a challenge for each team. They were given a rope of known length (20.85m) and asked to measure the perimeter of the basketball court and path. An accurate measurement was taken with a trundle wheel and the team with the closest answer was the winner. The children had to use addition, subtraction, estimation and decimals along with plenty of teamwork!

The last day of our first ASW and what a great week it has been. For our final day Rang 6 designed and set out an obstacle course for us. We had teams of 5 and every team was timed by Ms McCarron. Some tired legs after yesterday’s activities but everyone had a go!
